About

Derek is a solo singer at Theater Trier and a graduate of the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, with fifteen years on professional stages. But when you book Opera Lux, the credentials aren't the point. What your guests get is a live performance, in the room with them.

Derek plans the set personally with the host, song by song, around the venue and the evening. On the night he reads the room: when to stay soft while people talk, when to open up the full voice. Every note live. Songs people actually know.

For weddings and larger celebrations, Derek brings in a professional soprano and they sing the great duets: the Drinking Song from La Traviata with glasses raised, the love duets people know from films and never expect to hear live. What venue owners
ask before booking.

"Isn't opera too highbrow for our guests?"

Nobody needs to know the repertoire or the language. He sings a few metres from the tables, and that lands on its own. The guests who've never set foot in an opera house are the ones filming, and the ones asking when he's back.

"We don't have a stage."

Neither do most of the places Derek performs. Dining rooms, terraces, courtyards. One performer and a room is the whole format. He brings the equipment, and setup takes minutes, not hours.

"We tried live music once. It just faded into the background."

Background music is designed to be ignored, so it was. This is a planned performance with a start, an arc, and a finish, built with you around your evening. Guests stop mid-conversation because something is actually happening in the room, not because anyone asked them to.

"Our regulars come for calm evenings."

So the set is planned for exactly that. Derek builds it with the host: when he sings, for how long, how the evening breathes between pieces. It's a hosted moment inside your evening, not an interruption of it.

"Isn't a full opera voice too loud for a dining room?"

Fifteen years on the opera stage taught Derek to fill a concert hall without a microphone, and to sing beside a table without drowning a single conversation. He adjusts that all evening, room by room, set by set. A speaker on a stand can't.
